The Connecticut Sun made sure they kept their top 3-point shooter in the fold Friday when they signed Stricklen Shekinna (6'2''-G/F-90, college: Tennessee) to a two-year contract. Terms of the contract were not released. In her first season in Connecticut, the 6-foot-2 Stricklen came off the bench and drained a team-high 51 3-pointers. She averaged 7.7 points per game and was a candidate for WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year last season. 'Shekinna did a great job for us last year and she wanted to return to Connecticut as much as we wanted her back,' Sun vice president and general manager Chris Sienko said in a press release. 'She will be an important part of the Sun moving forward.' The Sun acquired Stricklen and Camille Little from the Seattle Storm in exchange for Renee Montgomery and two picks (No. 3 and 15) during the 2015 WNBA Draft. Stricklen, who was the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft out of Tennessee, made an immediate impact. She scored in double-figures 15 times and scored the game-winning layup against the Storm on July 31. She'll work with new Sun coach Curt Miller for the first time this year. 'Shekinna is a talented guard that is a proven three-point threat in the WNBA,' Miller said in a release. 'She fits into our offensive system and will help space the floor for our skilled post game. We are excited to have her back with the Sun and I look forward to working with her on the court.' The Sun will open the season at Chicago on May 14.

Stars collapse in fourth, fall to Wings - 2 days ago
Whether it was battling injuries to key players or trying to mesh a retooled roster, the winless Stars remained optimistic. They said it was simply a matter of time before their talent, chemistry and potential came together. And when they did, the real Stars would appear. And indeed, for 30 minutes Thursday against the Dallas Wings, the Stars displayed what could be. During the final 9 minutes, they displayed what has been. Undone by a rash of missed shots, turnovers and defensive lapses,...   [read more]
