Breakers defeat Lights - May 1, 2010

The Santa Barbara Breakers picked up a WCBL road win at Westchester Gymnasium in Marina Del Rey with a 113-96 victory over the Long Beach Lights. After a start in which the Lights controlled the tempo early on, taking a 16-6 lead with lightning quick drives to the bucket and 3 treys in a row, coach Pickering turned to a 1-2-2 trapping half court defense to stymie penetration. Startig frmom that moment, the Breakers came back, ending teh first half ahead, 54-40. During the third quarter, Santa Barbara maintained the 14 point lead, 77-63, going into the final frame and the scoring barrage increased in the 4th quarter as fastbreak opportunities led to more open three attempts and makes. James Powell (6'2''-G-87, college: UCSB) led the Breakers, setting a personal high at the pro level with 23 points. He was matched by Mark Peters (5'11''-G-81, college: Cal-Riverside) 23 pts, newly acquired Bryce Sheldon (6'6''-G/F-84, agency: Warren Sports International) and Tim Taylor (6'3''-G-82, college: Wayne St., NE) scored 22 each.

The Breakers now concentrate on their home opener, tonight, May 1st, at SB City College Sports Pavilion. The opponent will be the Marina Del Rey Advantage, who sport a 1-1 record in WCBL play. Game time is 7:15pm.

Curt Pickering has just informed Usbasket.com that five moths ago the 2013 WCBL season ended with another win of his Santa Barbara Breakers team. Santa Barbara Breakers participated at the International Tournament - 4 Years ago

Santa Barbara Breakers participated at the International Tournament in Holland. The American side finished on the 6th place. KK Bosna beat Santa Barbara Breakers102:96 in the last game. Sarajevo KK Bosna won the first period 28-26 and dominated the second frame. The European team added a 26-17 rally for 11-point advantage at the halftime.
