Former Orange Park High basketball star Danielle Richardson (6'3''-F/C-83, college: UNC Pembroke) is encouraging women in the Jacksonville to try out for the Orange Park Lady Crusaders basketball team from 930 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 28th and and from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29th at Orange Park High School on 1500 Gano Ave in Orange Park.. For more information, Richardson can be contacted at (904) 536-9647 or through opladycrusaders15@gmail.com.

The Women's Blue-Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) is the premier development league for women basketball players. The WBCBL's mission is to provide highly competitive basketball for women age 20 and older (by May 1). The competition level ranges from former College players to former NWBL and WNBA players and current International players. In addition, the WBCBL has built a networking relationship with professional international basketball scouts and agents to broaden the possibility of higher-level professional jobs being offered.

Richardson said she's very excited to be in the league that has been in existence since 2005 with over 36 teams in America.

'My team will be going into its second season and I have big plans for the team this year,' Richardson said. 'We're in need of a sponsor for this upcoming season and we offer great marketing for the sponsor who selects us. I really plan to do many activities (Basketball camps, cloths drives, food drives etc) in the community for the youth and sponsor and donations are needed and accepted so that we will be successful in reaching out to the youth. Overall, I just want to give back through basketball plus service in the community.'

Richardson, an Orange park native, also played at Seminole Community college for two years on a basketball scholarship before transferring to North Carolina-Pembroke. She was the Peach Belt Player of the Year in 2004 which is the first in school history in the Peach Belt Division in any sport. In 2014, Richardson was a Hall of Fame inductee for North Carolina-Pembroke. She played two years overseas for Wels Powerbasket in Austria and for Marbo Baros in Sweden. Richardson's older brother, Larry, was a former Orange Park High and Indiana standout.
