Summer was even hotter this weekend as the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League completed its 12th season and National Championship Tournament.

The 2016 WBCBL National Tournament featured the league's top 8 teams (out of 32) nationwide. Of those 8 teams, only 2 were first-time participants. The other 6 teams in the tournament were all returning tournament teams, 4 of which, has won the previous 4 WBCBL National Titles. Teams in attendance were #1. San Antonio Crusaders (TX), #2. Conyers Rockets (GA), #3. Charlotte Invasion (NC), #4. Georgia Soul (GA), #5. Flyers Elite (MO), #6. Louisiana Bayou Angels (LA), #7. St. Louis Surge (MO), and #8. Dallas Diesel (TX).

This was definitely the strongest tournament thus far, with each roster stacked with former WNBA and current FIBA players. One of the most outstanding performances was recorded by #8 seeded Dallas Diesel's WBCBL All-Star and Swiss veteran, Layla Schwarz-McCray (6'4/ F - Oklahoma Baptist University), as she put up 23 points, 13 rebounds, 8 blocks, 4 assists and 2 steals.

In the end, dej vu was the case in the Championship Game as the Flyers Elite faced the St. Louis Surge for the third time in the title game. Both teams were tied 1 to 1 when facing each other for the WBCBL Championships prior to now. St. Louis Surge ran on full power with a 12-player rotation throughout the tournament to secure the 2016 title. This was the Surge's 5th consecutive appearance in the WBCBL National Tournament and their 2nd WBCBL National Championship Title.

'We have worked extremely hard to get here, our players, coaching staff and management teams all contributed countless hours to be in this position. We are humbled and grateful for all our supports and sponsors that made this all possible. We have the greatest fans ever!
- Khaila Collier,
St. Louis Surge Owner & GM
