The GIE Maile Matrix have developed a knack for beating the best in the South. They did it again on Sunday night, rallying from a 15-point, first-quarter deficit for a 90-81 victory over the Atlanta Legends. Jermaine Barnes (6'4''-G/F-83, college: Point, GA, agency: Gamble Sports Management) scored a season-high 40 points and 8 rebounds as the Matrix, who are second in the South, improved to 4-1 combined against the Atlanta Legends and Georgia Spartans this season. ''This is the team we had to beat,'' Barnes said. ''I think we get up for the big games like the Legends. We've just got to come with a better mindset for games that we feel like we should win. We know we can play with anybody, we've proven that. But for now I'm happy with the direction of the team.'' GIE led by two early in the third quarter before Barnes scoring the next 15 points, capped by a 3-pointer to end the third. "I knew it was a matter of time before I got hot", said Barnes. Coming back from this injury has been hell for me. I needed this.

The Matrix had a balanced scoring attack led by Freddie Williams (6'2''-G-87, college: Clayton St., agency: Gamble Sports Management). Williams finished the game with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists on just 8 field goal attempts. Ransom Antoine (6'5''-F-83, college: Columbus St.) added a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) in the win. Mike Sloan (6'5''-G/F-84, college: Clayton St.) was the high man for the Atlanta Legends. He took over the 4th quarter with a 5-6 three point outburst. Sloan finished the game with 25 points in the loss. Tony Omotayo (6'5''-G/F-85, college: Ft.Valley St.) also added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the Legends.
