David Walls Report
7/17/2016

The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL), fresh from a record breaking attendance in the recently concluded 2015-2016 ABL Finals, has announced today that a team from the UBA minor league will be joining the league starting this 2016-2017 season. The team will be known as the Kaohsiung Truth.

Playing out of Kaohsiung City, a special municipality in the southwest of Taiwan, the team is in the midst of creating history as there has never been a professional Christian ministry basketball team. They will also be the first team outside of the Southeast Asia region to join the league.

The Kaohsiung Truth is primarily backed by The Truth Network, a group of Christian Radio Stations in the United States that broadcasts and streams live, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

'We've been putting this project together for about a year with the realization that we can use the sport of basketball as a platform to tackle the issues related to the 10/40 window,' said Stu Epperson, Team Owner of the Kaohsiung Truth. He added: 'Being accustomed to this beautiful country and having the basketball background that we do, we wanted to create opportunities to share God's love with other countries and communities.'

The lone team from Taiwan has already enlisted several players to bolster their squad for the upcoming season - Americans 7'2 James Tyler and 6'8' Chris Oliver and Taiwanese players 6'7 Carlos Andrade, 6'3 Wesley Hsu (6'3''-G/F-84, college: Elon), and 6'3 Sabatino Chen. They are also looking to sign players from Kaohsiung to boost their team and give it the much needed local flavor.

'We welcome the Kaohsiung Truth to the ABL family with open arms,' said ABL Chief Operations Officer Jericho Ilagan. 'Adding a team from outside of the Southeast Asia region is a step towards the right direction to further strengthen the sport of basketball.'

The Winston Savage-Truth ranked 3rd in the UBA last season. They advanced to the 2016 UBA semi finals before being eliminated by the Oklahoma Outlaws.

"This is what the UBA is all about", said Travis McAvene . We focus on international groth and placement. This addition to the ASEAN proves the hard work of our league office.
