Luis Guzman (6'4''-G-87, college: Temple) hasn't played one game in a Southern Generals uniform but yet is regarded as the best pure point guard in the UBA.

At worst, the twenty five-year old will open next season as the league's 2nd best point guard. But, by the time the 2012-13 season ends, his game will be recognized as the best at his position.

DeAndre Bray (5'6''-G-85, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Jacksonville St.) is currently the standard by which all PG's are measured. Freddie Williams (6'2''-G-87, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Clayton St.), Calvin O'Neil (6'4''-G-85, college: Middle Tenn.St.), Mike Crain (6'2''-G-84, college: Valdosta St.) and James Justice (5'10''-PG-89, college: Martin Methodist) have all earned mentions in that conversation. But as we move to his first season with the Southern Generals, Guzman will play his way past each one of those elite level guards.

There's no single aspect of Luis Guzman's game that he needs to develop heading into his rookie season in the UBA. His jump shot is already as pure as any point guard on the planet. His crossover is deadly. He has demonstrated the ability to create for his teammates, and shown the propensity to hit game-winning shots.

Last season Guzman played in the Dominican Republic for Capitanes de la Bahia where he shot 47% from the field, 40% from three, knocked down 87% of his free throws, and dished out a league best 6.0 assists per game. He was also selected to play on the Dominican National Team with the likes of Atlanta Hawks own Alfred Horford (6'10''-F/C-86, college: Florida) and several other NBA players. Not one of the seven point guards on this list has this type of experience going into the 2012-13 season. Only Freddie Williams can match the success of Guzman due to his great season with GIE, Dominican Rep. then of course Team USA in the Williams Jones Cup.

The Generals and Guzman will only get better throughout the season.

I know the power ranks say the GIE squad with the company of 4 other power ranked teams are ahead of the Generals but come June ranking don't matter. The Generals are the sleepers of the UBA. They will make the playoffs in the powerful Southern Conference and contend for it's 2nd UBA title. Yes i said 2nd, the Generals are the only other team (besides GIE) to win a UBA title. The Generals put together the best season in UBA history going 32-5 led by 2011 Point Guard of the Year and now generals head coach Will De La Cruz (6'2''-G-80, agency: Gamble Sports Management, college: Atlanta Christian). De La Cruz also a Dominican native was the smoothest point guard in league history averaging 14 points and a league best 10.6 assists per game. This puts Guzman in a very comfortable situation to transition into the UBA game.

Guzman's projected to average 13.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 11.1 assists before the 2011-13 UBA season ever begins. Once it does, Luis Gusman will have elevated himself to the top spot on the UBA's point guard list. He'll be referred to then as DeAndre Bray is now; the standard by which all point guards are measured. But we all know Bray wont go down without a fight. The reigning UBA Guard of the Year has set the record mark for APG in one season with 11.5. It should be a great season.

UBA News Payne named UBA Player of the Week Louisville Diesel and the GIE Maile Matrix met in a showdown in Kentucky last week. The Diesel outlasted the Matrix 93-90 Saturday night.
