Invasion standout and original Wilmington Sea Dawg Charles Ward on the low block
On the day when the Wilmington Sea Dawgs would honor a Sea Dawg original, Charles Ward (who now plays for the opposing team), the Dawgs would look to stay perfect and atop the standings for both the Tobacco Road Basketball League and Premier Basketball League. Standing in the way of that would be a tough Cary Invasion team who came into the game with a 6-1 record.
The Sea Dawgs jumped on the Invasion early and ended the first quarter with 29-21 lead. They would be paced by the still hot Marco Spears, who tallied 9 points in the quarter. The second quarter would be a different story. Tay Wright and Mike Smith of the Invasion would each score 8 points in the quarter and bring the Invasion to within 4 (53-49) going into halftime.
We're not exactly sure what transpired during halftime but the flood gates opened in the third period as Todd McLaurin would lead a surge that would result in the Sea Dawgs outscoring the Invasion 38-25 and ultimately taking a 17 point lead going into the fourth period. The Invasion would try and claw back into the game and come within 10 but that would be as close as they would get. The Sea Dawgs would go on to defeat the Cary Invasion 120-103 and increase their record to 6-0, 4-0 in the PBL.
The Sea Dawgs got a huge contribution from their recently acquired power forward Elijah Rouse, who was dominant on the boards and also added 10 points. The Sea Dawgs were led in scoring by Marco Spears with 32, Todd McLaurin with 31, and Levi Humphrey chipping in 17. The Invasion was led by Tay Wright, whose light seemed to be as green as the Invasion Colors. He would finish with 30. Other scoring standouts would be JJ Barbree with 22 points, Mike Smith and his 20 points, and Rodney Callwood with 16.
The Cary Invasion will look to bounce back from this loss on Jan 9 as they host The Raleigh Revolt. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs will look to continue their winning ways as they head into a back to back this weekend playing first The Charlotte Elite in Charlotte and then return home Sunday to host the Auburn Pro Elite.

Bull City Legacy outgun Cary Invasion - 10 months ago
As is tradition, arch rivals the Cary Invasion and the Bull City Legacy opened their respective seasons last Saturday, this time in Durham at Voyager Academy and, in what has become their tradition, both teams gave those attending a show. These two teams really don't care for each other much, but that they do respect each other's game is apparent. This due, in part, to both teams carrying players on their rosters who used to play for the other team. While, too, many of them have been team...   [read more]
Raleigh Revolt claim second straight title - 1 Year ago
For the second year in a row The Eastern Conference champion, Raleigh Revolt, and Western Conference champion, Charlotte Elite, faced off with TRBL championship as the prize. For the second year in a row, Raleigh proved to be the better team, beating the Elite 112-109 and bringing an impressive 2016 season to a close. The defending champions, the Raleigh Revolt, come into the game having only lost once this season against the visiting Auburn Pro-Elite. That loss brought to an end a 17 ga...   [read more]
