Houston Xperience put up a fight against the No. 1 Austin Knights in Saturday's 97-91 victory. When the game looked to be slipping away for either team, a three-pointer or small mistake from the opponent put them right back in it. Xperience was up by one at halftime but needed to make some adjustments. The team started the night off slow with bad shot selection, turnovers and lack of defense. Most was due to frustration and lack of communication. Head coach Kevin Williams and other players yelled from the sidelines, 'Talk! Start talking!' When asked about communication, Williams said it needs to be better'One of the problems is we're not getting back on defense so we do need to communicate better. Also when they get offensive rebounds we aren't boxing off on defense.' Williams said those things would change in the second round and so they did. Xperience was able to pull away late in the fourth quarter thanks to the defensive stops and the Austin Knights being in foul trouble. The top performer of the night for Xperience was Anthony Turner. He had 26 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Christian Sonier (6'0''-G-83, college: Prairie View A&M) was close behind with a firm 28 points and four assists. Sonier said he played okay but could've done better. Now his main focus is to fix Saturday's night mistakes and get ready for the next opponent. That's going to happen by being more aggressive from start to finish.'I think at the beginning of the game we kind of started off slow. We were trying to pull each other out,' Sonier said. 'We have to figure out an idea of what we can do, so the next games we can jump out on them early and keep our feet on the rally and pull the game off.'Houston, which is now ranked No. 2, will host the No. 1 Garland Hoyas and San Antonio kings in a double-header on Saturday. The first game is set to tip-off at 3 pm and the second will start at 5. For more information the Xperience website is www.hxpbasketball.com
