The New Era Basketball Association has a new commissioner. Dominique Wilford will take over duties as the top official in the league, NEBA President Kevin Williams announced on Thursday. Wilford takes over the reins of NEBA operations at a time when the league is breaking down barriers and pushing through doors that other leagues were unable to penetrate. NEBA league has 24 teams competing and is just a week away from the start of the season. NEBA continues to expand and pushing NEBA into a new era takes both drive and vision, which Wilford feels he embodies. 'They wanted someone who had a good business mind and someone who knows basketball,' Wilford said. 'And also someone who is passionate about the NEBA league.'Kevin Williams didn't think there was any other candidate for the job. Wilford was his first choice. 'Nobody knows more about the mission of NEBA and the vision of the league better than him,' Williams says. 'Dominique was my first choice. We believe in hard work and loyalty and Dominique has all of these qualities. I am excited to work with him and I have no doubt he will take this league to the next level.' For Wilford, taking the job provides him with a platform from which to display some of that vision and passion while helping the league achieve an elite status in the basketball world. Both he and Kevin Williams feel that the direction NEBA is going in makes it second to none in the world of minor league basketball. 'I've been a part of NEBA league since 2014,' Wilford said. 'One vision that I and Kevin share for the league is kind of a motto: If it's not the NBA or the NBDL, it's NEBA league. And that is what players coming out of college and those coming from overseas will think when they want to either further their basketball careers or get back into the game of basketball.'Indeed, several players have been contacting NEBA because they recognize it is an opportunity that is not presented elsewhere. It is also not an opportunity that is solely presented to players in men's basketball leagues. With the launch of the WNEBA, the women's equivalent to NEBA, launching in the spring, many players across the world will have a place to showcase their talents. Just today, in his first full day as league commissioner, Wilford was busy fielding calls from former WNBA players looking to join the WNEBA already, even before a single game has been played. After starting out as an intern, Wilford is now the league commissioner. In many ways it is a symbol of the entire mission of NEBA. Wilford started at the bottom, displayed good qualities, then reaped the benefits of everyone taking notice of those qualities. NEBA is doing the same thing for minor league basketball. Once a ground level, grass roots league, NEBA is now the largest and most self-sufficient league of it's kind. More than his personal accomplishments, that last point is the one that moves Wilford. 'I'm very pleased with where the league is headed in our first season. We haven't even played a game yet and the buzz around the United States and overseas is great!!' Wilford said. Steady play both on and off the court is what will keep NEBA afloat and achieving its' goals. By placing the league in the hands of Dominique Wilford, NEBA again displayed the savvy and stable structure that has led the league to new heights. Dominique has over 15 years of basketball experience and is married to Marnese Jackson-Wilford and they have two children, London and Dawson.

We look forward to becoming a stronger minor league organization giving Dallas fans amazing basketball and players the opportunity to go overseas and to get opportunities in DLeague.
