Sean McDonnell , the head coach of the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball program since 2003, has announced his resignation. McDonnell, the third head coach of the program since the federation of the University prior to the 1971-72 season, compiled 128 wins during his time with the team. In his 13 years at CWRU, McDonnell has coached three finalists for The Jostens Trophy (NCAA Division III National Player of the Year) and three Academic All-America honorees. His players received 34 All-University Athletic Association honors during his tenure, including five all-conference first team selections. "Over the past 13 years, I've forged lifelong relationships with students, alumni, faculty, and staff at Case Western Reserve and will be forever grateful for my experiences here," said McDonnell. In addition to the team's activities on the court, McDonnell's players have been active members of Team "STU MAN Group", volunteering annually at the Walk to Defeat ALS in support of the late Spartan Club Hall of Famer, David Stuczynski '85. His team has tutored students at nearby Mary M. Bethune Elementary School in mathematics every Friday since 2014. "I would like to thank Sean for his many years of service to our student athletes and our community at Case Western Reserve University," said CWRU Director of Athletics Amy Backus. "We wish all the best for Sean and his family in the next phase of his career." A national search for the next Case Western Reserve University head men's basketball coach will begin immediately. Case Western finished 12-13, 5-9 in the UAA last season.

Babson win 2017 championship - 7 days ago
Joey Flannery (6'5''-G) blocked a potential game-winning shot with three seconds left and Babson held off Augustana 79-78 to win the 2017 Division III men's basketball championship. As Augustana did in Friday's semifinal, the Vikings opened the game with hot shooting and built a 10-point lead on Dylan Sortillo's three-pointer midway through the first period. Nick Comenale (6'3''-F) sparked a 25-5 run for Babson with a pair of three pointers and a layup and the Beavers took a 41-31 lead in...   [read more]
