Saturday's Notre Dame-North Carolina game originally scheduled for 6 p.m. ET has been postponed to Sunday due to an emergency water crisis in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, area the school announced in a news release Friday.
A major water main break resulted in a state of emergency being declared in the area. WRAL reported that water in the area will not be safe for at least 24 hours.
Said Ed Kerwin, executive director of the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA): "This is essentially a worst case scenario."
Because of the crisis, the North Carolina closed its campus at 1 p.m. Friday and classes were cancelled as the university staff and students were asked to leave the campus.
The conditions with the water crisis don't appear to be nearing an immediate solution, either. As a result, the rescheduled game Sunday will be played at the Greensboro Coliseum. For those who purchased tickets for Saturday at the Dean Smith Center, the tickets will be honored for Sunday's game, the release said.
"We don't run any set plays, so we are always flexible," Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said.
The game was originally scheduled to be televised by ESPN, but will now be televised on ESPNNews when the Tar Heels and Fighting Irish take the floor at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
