Bison claim second-straight championship to earn NCAA Tournament bid - Mar 8, 2018
Bucknell senior guard Stephen Brown (5'11''-G-96) scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half, as the top-seeded Bison defeated No. 2 Colgate, 83-54, in the Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship Game at Sojka Pavilion, claiming the League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second season in a row. The Bison are the first team to earn back-to-back Patriot League Men's Basketball Titles since American repeated in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. Their 29-point win is the largest margin of victory in a Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship Game, breaking the previous record of 26. Brown connected on 5-of-7 attempts from 3-point range and dished out a game-high six assists to earn Patriot League Tournament Most Valuable Player honors. Junior forward Nate Sestina (6'8''-F/C-97) chipped in 16 points for the Bison. Colgate sophomore forward Will Rayman (6'8''-F/C) posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Bucknell will learn their NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament fate on Sunday, March 11 during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show at 6 p.m. ET on TBS.
AT NO. 1 BUCKNELL BISON (25-9) 83, NO. 2 COLGATE RAIDERS (19-13) 54 Sojka Pavilion/Lewisburg, Pa. 7:30 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network/Westwood One) BOX SCORE LEWISBURG, Pa. - No. 1 Bucknell used a 17-0 run over a five-minute stretch midway through the second half to help seal its second-consecutive Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship with a win over No. 2 Colgate, 83-54, on Wednesday night at Sojka Pavilion. *This is the Bison's second-consecutive Patriot League title and fifth in program history, while the 29-point win is the largest margin of victory in Patriot League Men's Basketball Championship Game history. The previous mark was 26 by Lafayette in an 87-61 win over Navy on March, 20, 2000. *Bucknell senior point guard Stephen Brown earned tournament most valuable player honors after scoring 19 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, while dishing out a game-high six assists. *Sestina finished two points short of his career-high with 16, including 12 in the first half. Senior center Nana Foulland (6'9''-C-95) finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and two assists, while senior Zach Thomas (6'7''-F-96) finished with four points and a game-high 12 rebounds. *Colgate sophomore forward Will Rayman posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman guard Jordan Burns (6'0''-PG) chipped in 11 points and six rebounds for the Raiders. *The Bison connected on 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) 3-point attempts in the second half. *Junior forward Nate Sestina paced the Bison early, scoring five of the team's first seven points. *Rayman helped Colgate jump out to a 13-10 lead with seven points over the game's first 10 minutes. *Bucknell took control, going on a 25-6 run over a seven-minutes span to take a 35-19 lead. The Bison led 35-21 at the half. *The Bison led 49-36 with 14:46 remaining in the second half, before shutting out the Raiders for the next five minutes to build a 30-point lead, at 66-36.
