Tyrone Watson (6'5''-F-90, college: N.Mexico St.) scored 26 points and C.J. Washington (6'8''-F-92, college: UAB) chipped in 19 for the Halifax Hurricanes as they defeated the Island Storm 103-99 at the East Link Arena in Charlottetown in National Basketball League of Canada action on Thursday night. Terry Thomas paced the Storm (5-8) once again with 32 points while A.J. Stewart (6'9''-F-88, college: Texas St.) provided timely defensive efforts for his squad. The game was an evenly contested affair until Clifford Clinkscales (6'1''-PG-84, college: De Paul) and the top-seeded Hurricanes hit on a barrage of three-pointers and dribble drives early in the fourth quarter. With less than six minutes to go in the game, the Hurricanes, who scored 34 fourth quarter points, opened up a 10-point lead despite trailing 72-69 at the end of the third period. The two clubs are heading in opposite directions, with the Storm having dropped their last three games and the Hurricanes riding a three-game winning streak. The season series is now 4-0 in Halifax's favour. The Hurricanes move to play the Saint John Riptide on Sunday and Sunday and then face the Storm again on Feb. 9.
