Marvin
Phillips
London Lightning (NBL Canada) signed experienced 34-year old American power forward Marvin Phillips (201-113kg-83, college: Claflin). It is actually his comeback to London Lightning as he has played here before. Phillips played last season at Caen Basket Calvados in French NM1 league. In 37 games he had 14.8ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2spg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
Phillips ended the previous (2014-15) season at Charleville-Mezieres (ProB) in French league where in 7 games he recorded 11.1ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.0apg and 1.0spg. But the most of that year he spent at London Lightning. In 36 NBL Canada games he averaged impressive 19.5ppg, 10.2rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg. A very impressive season as he was voted USBasket.com All-NBL Canada Center of the Year, named to USBasket.com All-NBL Canada 1st Team and named to USBasket.com NBL Canada All-Defensive Team.
In 2008 (four years after he left the college) Phillips was drafted by Iowa Energy (D-League) in fifth round (79th overall).
He attended Claflin University (NCAA Div.II) until 2004 and it is his 13th (hopefully lucky) season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Phillips won NBL Canada championship title in 2013. He was also voted CBA Defensive Player of the Year back in 2008.
Phillips is quite experienced player. He has played in seven different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). Phillips has played previously professionally in Colombia (Piratas), Mexico (Fuerza Regia), PBL (Lawton Ft.SC), CBA (Albany P.), WBA (Anderson H.) and D-League (Fort Wayne Mad Ants and Erie Bay Hawks).
He could be described: A forward with fantastic leaping ability, who can be the most exciting player in any team he goes. Sometimes, it seems he can jump right out of the gym....

Titans snap slide with win over Edge - 2 days ago
Start the game one hour before noon, toss a large contingent of exuberant schoolchildren into the mix, and voila, the slide is over. The Kitchener-Waterloo Titans put an end to their five-game National Basketball League of Canada losing streak Tuesday with a 94-86 win over the St. John's Edge. Kevin Rogers (6'9''-PF-86, college: Baylor) led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds and a crowd of about 2,000 energetic youngsters provided the Titans with a much-needed lift at the Aud. River Lions repel Magic - 4 days ago
Sometimes a team needs to pullout a gutsy win. That was the case Sunday afternoon at Meridian Centre as the Niagara River Lions snapped a three-game losing streak with a 97-94 win over the Moncton Magic. In a game that saw nine lead changes, the River Lions finally prevailed to improve to 9-11 on the season. 'That was a gut win,' a relieved Lions head coach Joe Raso said. 'We had two teams right here that both we're fighting (tough) schedules. Both were fighting personnel adversities - th...   [read more]
