Oppong's 29 points and 9 rebounds give him Player of the Week award - Jan 27, 2013

Papa Oppong
25-year old guard Papa Oppong (193-G-87) had a very impressive game in the last round for Oshawa P. and receives a Player of the Week award for round 25.
He had the game-high 29 points adding nine rebounds and three assists for Oshawa P. in his team's victory, helping them to crush Montreal J. (#8, 2-23) with 17-point margin 131-114. Oshawa P. maintains the 3rd position in NBLCanada league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Oshawa P. will need more victories to improve their 17-11 record. In the team's last game Oppong had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 11 attempts. He turned to be Oshawa P.'s top player in his first season with the team. Papa Oppong averages this season 12.2ppg and 5.2rpg. Worth to mention Oppong played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

Second best performed player last round was Anthony Anderson (180-G-81) of St.John M.R.. He is American guard in his second season at St.John M.R.. In the last game Anderson recorded impressive double-double of 26 points and 10 assists. Of course St.John M.R. cruised to a 135-127 relatively comfortable win over slightly lower-ranked Windsor Exp. (#7, 10-16). St.John M.R.'s 6th position in the standings has not changed. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 13-15 record. Anderson is well-known at St.John M.R. and he already established his position as one of the team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.3ppg (#4). His other stats are also decent: 4.6rpg and 7.4apg.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Darren Duncan (180-PG-88) of Windsor Exp. (#7). Duncan scored 22 points and passed twenty assists (!!!). Despite Duncan's great performance Windsor Exp. lost 127-135 to slightly higher-ranked St.John M.R. (#6, 13-15). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Windsor Exp. not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 16 games, recording just ten victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Duncan could try to bring Windsor Exp.'s a little bit higher in the standings. Duncan has individually a great season in NBL. After 18 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.7ppg (5th best) and assists with 7.8apg (best passer).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Omari Johnson (205-F-89) of Summerside S. - 24 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Mark Gomillia (195-F-87) of Oshawa P. - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Courtland Bluford (187-G-88) of Montreal J. - 28 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists
7. Al Stewart (178-PG-83) of Summerside S. - 13 points, 2 rebounds and 8 assists
8. Nick Okorie (185-PG-88) of Oshawa P. - 27 points, 2 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Mike Helms (184-PG-82) of Windsor Exp. - 35 points and 2 rebounds
10. Antoine Tisby (203-F/C-83) of Halifax R. - 16 points and 4 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
