American Eric Frederick (203-F-88) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Montreal J. and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23. The 24-year old forward had a double-double of 47 points and twelve rebounds, while his team lost the game against London L. (#1, 22-2) 125-138. Montreal J. maintains the 8th position in NBL Canada. The season is in a full swing, so it's only a dream for the team to make it into top half of the standings. For contrary they may face relegation if the situation turns from bad to worse. Montreal J. have already lost 21 games and recorded just two victories. In the team's last game Frederick had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range and got eight three-pointers out of 16 attempts. He just recently signed at Montreal J., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Eric Frederick averages this season 27.6ppg and 10.0rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was -year old American swingman Antonio Ballard (193-G/F) of second-ranked Summerside S.. Ballard impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Summerside S. was edged by slightly lower-ranked Oshawa P. (#3, 15-11) 117-114. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Summerside S. still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 15-10 record is not bad at all. Ballard is a newcomer at Summerside S. and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. Miami University, Ohio alumni Ballard played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
The third best performed player last round was Nigerian Nick Okorie (185-PG-88) of Oshawa P. (#3). Okorie got into 30-points club by scoring 32 points in the last round. He went also for six rebounds and seven assists. He was a key player of Oshawa P., leading his team to a 117-114 win against #2 ranked Summerside S.. Oshawa P. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 15 victories and 11 lost games. Okorie has a great season in NBL. After 25 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.5ppg (2nd best). He also has FGP: 54.5% and 3PT: 44.5%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Tim Ellis (193-G-81) of London L. - 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists 5. Isaac Butts (208-C) of Moncton M. - 18 points and 14 rebounds 6. The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
