Isaac Butts
American center Isaac Butts (208-C, agency: Pro One Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for Moncton M., receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 22.
The -year old player had a double-double of 27 points and 20 rebounds, while his team beat Montreal J. (#8, 2-20) 111-96. Moncton M. maintains the 4th position in NBLCanada NBL Canada. Moncton M. is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 13-15 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Butts as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Former Appalachian State University star has very solid stats this year. Butts is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 8.8rpg) and averages impressive 55.9% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old Nigerian Nick Okorie (185-PG-88) of Oshawa P.. Okorie had a very good evening with 37 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. It was enough for Oshawa P. to edge slightly lower-ranked Halifax R. (#5, 12-13) in overtime 127-124. Oshawa P.'s 3rd position in the standings has not changed. His team's 14-10 record is not bad at all. Okorie is a newcomer at Oshawa P., but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.8ppg (#4). He also recorded 4.3 assists per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was another Oshawa P.'s star - American forward William Harris (201-F-87). Harris got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for eight rebounds . He was another key player of Oshawa P., helping his team with a 123-117 win against the lower-ranked St.John M.R. (#6, 11-15). Oshawa P. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 14 victories and 10 lost games. Harris has a great season in NBL. After 24 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.5ppg (9th best). Harris attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Antoine Tisby (203-F/C-83) of Halifax R. - 23 points and 18 rebounds
5. Antonio Ballard (193-G/F) of Summerside S. - 18 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Jushay Rockett (197-F-84) of Oshawa P. - 35 points and 8 rebounds
7. Cavell Johnson (203-F-85) of St.John M.R. - 25 points and 10 rebounds
8. Nick Okorie (185-PG-88) of Oshawa P. - 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Jerice Crouch (182-G-84) of St.John M.R. - 27 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Courtland Bluford (187-G-88) of Montreal J. - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

NBL Canada season to tip off sooner to boost attendance - 7 days ago
The National Basketball League of Canada is moving up its schedule for next season by six weeks because fans want to spend more time outside in the spring. The season will now begin in mid-November, rather than late December, and will end at the beginning of April, as opposed to mid-May. Tyrone Levingston, the president of the Cape Breton Highlanders, said a survey of fans was conducted to look at when the season should run. "Our fans showed that that was the right choice to make," he sai...   [read more]
