American Devin Sweetney (198-G/F-87, agency: Pro One Sports) put on an amazing game in the last round for Moncton M. and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 17.
The 25-year old swingman had a double-double of 29 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat St.John M.R. (#4, 10-9) 98-92. Thanks to this victory Moncton M. moved-up to the 6th position in the NBLCanada NBL Canada. Moncton M. is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 10-11 record. Sweetney turned to be Moncton M.'s top player in his first season with the team. St.Francis College (PA) graduate has very impressive stats this year. Sweetney is league's best scorer averaging so far 23.0ppg. Sweetney

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 29-year old Terry Licorish (206-C/F-83) of Montreal J.. Licorish impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Montreal J. lost that game 101-114 to the higher-ranked Summerside S. (#3, 11-9). Montreal J. are still at the very bottom. 16 lost games are too many considering they did not win any game. Licorish is a newcomer at Montreal J. and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

The third best performed player last round was American Brandon Hassell (210-F-86) of Summerside S. (#3). Hassell scored 13 points and grabbed ten rebounds. He was a key player of Summerside S., leading his team to a 114-101 easy win against Montreal J. (#8, 0-16). Summerside S. needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 11 victories and 9 lost games. Hassell has a great season in NBL. After 20 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 7.3rpg (9th best). Hassell attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tyrone Levett (195-F-80) of Halifax R. - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
5. Sheray Thomas (203-F-84) of St.John M.R. - 21 points and 10 rebounds
6. Antoine Tisby (203-F/C-83) of Halifax R. - 18 points and 8 rebounds
7. Melvin Goins (180-G-87) of Halifax R. - 16 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists
8. Al Stewart (178-PG-83) of Summerside S. - 10 points, 3 rebounds and 13 assists
9. Tim Ellis (193-G-81) of London L. - 8 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists
10. Jeremy Williams (200-SF-87) of London L. - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Highlanders edge Hurricanes 100-99 - 56 minutes ago
Chad Frazier (6'4''-G-92, college: UAB) made the first of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Cape Breton Highlanders a 100-99 victory over the Halifax Hurricanes at Scotiabank Centre on Sunday afternoon. It was the second time this season that Cape Breton has defeated their provincial rivals on Halifax's home court. The Hurricanes jumped out to a 30-23 advantage following the first quarter. Cape Breton stormed back in the second, to cut the deficit to...   [read more]

Hurricanes halt Miracles' win streak - 3 days ago
Even the prospects of tying a franchise record win streak could not change a familiar pattern. Led by Antoine Mason (6'3''-G-92, college: Auburn)'s 24 points and Mike Poole (6'6''-G/F-92, college: Iona)'s 20 points, the Halifax Hurricanes halted the Moncton Miracles season-high five-game win streak - one away from tying its franchise record - with a 101-93 win Thursday night at Moncton Coliseum. Halifax (24-7) now leads the season series 6-0. Moncton (11-17) was paced by Malik Story's 22...   [read more]

Wild finish in Windsor, Orangeville falls short in double overtime - 4 days ago
It was a rough shooting start for the A's despite moving the ball very well for open shots. With a struggling offense, they quickly found themselves on the wrong end of a 10-0 run while Windsor converted most of their opportunities inside the paint. The A's didn't find themselves behind for too long however, and they retaliated after a quick pause in action to tie the game back up at 16-16. Although they had no success from behind the 3-point line, their interior presence provided consist...   [read more]
