Darnell
Hugee
Darnell Hugee (6'7''-F-85, college: Prairie View A&M) is back in the fold. The Halifax Rainmen announced Thursday they have re-signed the six-foot-seven power forward, a key contributor in the teams playoff run a year ago. It took awhile but we have Hugee back, Rainmen owner Andre Levingston said in a release. Nobody is going to outwork or outhustle Darnell on the basketball court. His athleticism and defensive intensity was a huge part of our success down the stretch last season.
Hugee was one of the five players Halifax protected from last season. But he wasnt offered a contract during the summer and was allowed to test the free-agent waters before reaching a deal with Levingston on Thursday. The 28-year-old played eight regular-season games with the Rainmen last year after joining the team on Feb. 17, then averaged 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in eight playoff contests as Halifax fell one win short of an NBL title. Hes expected to report to the Rainmen camp for their workout this afternoon at Mount Saint Vincent University. His addition gives Halifax 11 players in camp. The team has to settle on a 12-man roster, including three Canadians, before its first pre-season game Oct. 21.

Hurricanes extend win streak to 7-0 after home win against Storm - 16 hours ago
Not even a flu bug can stop the Halifax Hurricanes. The NBL Canada's top team took down the Island Storm 110-104 at home to improve their franchise-record winning streak to seven games and remain unbeaten on the season. The duo of Antoine Mason (6'3''-G-92, college: Auburn) and Cj Washington (6'7''-F) carried the club with a combined 49 points and 11 rebounds on the night. The Island Storm fall to 3-4 with the loss. Things didn't come easy Thursday, however. Head coach Mike Leslie said th...   [read more]

Riptide let Early go - 3 days ago
Saint John Riptide (NBL Canada) cut 29-year old American forward Chris Early (200-107kg-88, college: Chattanooga). In 5 NBL Canada games he averaged just 2.0ppg and 1.0rpg this season. Part of last summer Early spent at Inmaculada (LBL) in Peruvian league where in 10 games he was second best scorer with impressive 21.8ppg and recorded 12.2rpg (leader !!!) and 2.0apg.
