Udonis Haslem Wants Another Season In Miami - Apr 15, 2017

Veteran forward Udonis Haslem (6'8''-F-80, college: Florida) hopes to play at least one more season and he wants to stay with the Heat, according to Ira Winderman of The Sun Sentinel. The 37-year-old, who has spent his entire 14-year career in Miami, was motivated by the team's near miss in its run at a playoff spot. 'I would love to be here,' Haslem said. 'I would love to be a part of these guys' process and maturation. And when the time does come, I want to be in a situation where I was able to help those guys get to the playoffs. Not making the playoffs is not the way I want to end. I've still got a lot of gas in the tank. We will see what happens.' Haslem played sparingly this season, getting into just 17 games and averaging 7.6 minutes per night. But he understands his role as a mentor on a rebuilding team and is willing to continue it to remain in Miami. Haslem is the last link to the Heat teams that dominated the Eastern Conference in the early part of the decade. He says he was never tempted to look elsewhere, even after Dwyane Wade departed for the Bulls last summer. Haslem played this season on a one-year, $4MM contract, but will probably have to take a cut in pay if he returns. Between the Heat's cap concerns and the salary structure in the new CBA, Winderman states that Haslem can expect something close to the veteran minimum of $2.3MM next season. Keeping a roster spot open for Haslem could also be an issue, depending what happens with the Heat's large contingent of free agents. However, coach Erik Spoelstra loves having what amounts to a player/coach on hand and is expected to be an advocate for keeping Haslem. 'I love U.D. How else can I say it?' Spoelstra said. 'He's the last one, the last Samurai from the championship years. He has always embodied everything that we want from a Miami Heat player.' Haslem will spend the summer working with James Johnson and Dion Waiters (6'4''-G-91, college: Syracuse), even though they are headed toward free agency, as well as Tyler Johnson (6'4''-G-93, college: Fresno St.).

Wizards rally to tie series with uncomfortable Raptors - 13 hours ago
In the lead-up to Sunday's Raptors-Wizards Game 4, Toronto coach Dwayne Casey posed a rhetorical question for public consumption. 'How do we respond?' the coach wondered. The Raptors had been run off the Capital One Arena floor in Game 3, dropping their first loss of the series in a turnover-rife shambles that saw Toronto's players, veterans and youngsters alike, lose their collective cool in the face of Washington's timely injection of physicality. 'How do you respond when someone is up...   [read more]

LeBron James
Cavs top Pacers 104-100 in Game 4 to even series - 13 hours ago
LeBron James (6'8''-SF-84) has been the first-round king for 12 years. On Sunday night, he needed Kyle Korver (6'7''-F/G-81, college: Creighton)'s 3-point shooting to put him in position to extend his reign. The two combined for all of Cleveland's points in a late 10-2 run, helping the Cavaliers to a 104-100 victory over the Indiana Pacers to even the series at 2. James drew boos from the crowd after flipping the ball up the court to run out the clock. 'You don't ever want to go down 3-1...   [read more]

Celtics Lose Game 4 to Bucks, 104-102 - 13 hours ago
Giannis Antetokounmpo (6'11''-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 27 points, including tipping in the go-ahead basket with 5 seconds left, and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Boston Celtics 104-102 on Sunday to tie their first-round playoff series at two games apiece. Boston's Marcus Morris (6'9''-F-89, college: Kansas) missed a 14-footer at the buzzer with Khris Middleton (6'8''-F-91, college: Texas A&M)'s hand in his face to seal a nail-biting win for the Bucks. Seconds earlier, the 6-f...   [read more]
