Jusuf Nurkic is blossoming in Portland!

Jusuf Nurkic (7'0''-C-94)is blossoming in Portland!

Jusuf Nurkic has taken to his new surroundings in Portland quite well. When travelling with the Nuggets he visited the local Bosnian community while in Portland and found friends amongst the ex-pat community. Having some familiarity and knowledge helped ease his transition in his first trade in the NBA. Nurkic wasn't unfamiliar with moving around, coming from Bosnia as a youth, going first to Slovenia and then Croatia all as a young man.

Nurkic was embraced in Denver but the circumstances changed during his time with the Nuggets and the development of the triple double machine Nikola Jokic in the post made Nurkic's future with the franchise untenable. This trade looks like a steal for Portland as they got the young talented Bosnian center in the trade and a first round pick. No one doubted his talent, it just wasn't possible to play the two players together and the emotional Nurkic wasn't happy coming off the bench for a few minutes a night at this point in his career.

Given the opportunity to play big minutes with Portland he has made the most of it in his first five games. For the first time in his career he is getting consistent minutes, not looking over his shoulder if he was getting pulled and playing through rough moments you would expect from a 22 year old center that only started playing basketball at the age of 14.He is averaging 30mpg 14ppg 8.6rbpg 3.8aspg 1.8stls and 1.8blks while shooting 58.3% from two and 73.7% from the FT line for his new team.. In his last game against the Thunder Nurkic played a major role in the 114-109 win for the Trailblazers. Nurkic played 38min with 18pts 12rbs 6ass 2stls 5blks while shooting 7-10 from the field and 4-5 from the FT line.

Nurkic showed his class on his way out of town for Denver when Nurkic posted on his Instagram and Twitter accounts: "Thanks to the opportunities you have given me in the Denver Nuggets. Former teammates, fans and the club I wish all the best. Now it's time for new challenges!"

Given the opportunity to play and health he is likely to give Portland more of these exciting moments. No doubt great things will continue for this young Bosnian big man and all of his fans for them, this is just the beginning of something special.

Defense found: Bucks overwhelm Celtics for 116-92 win - 20 hours ago
Length and athleticism make the Milwaukee Bucks a dangerous team with the ball. When they defend the way they did on Friday night against the Boston Celtics, they're nearly unstoppable. Khris Middleton (6'8''-F-91, college: Texas A&M) scored 23 points, Giannis Antetokounmpo (6'11''-G/F-94, agency: Octagon Europe) added 19 and the Bucks used a dominating first half to overwhelm the Celtics 116-92, narrowing their deficit in the first-round playoff series to 2-1. Eric Bledsoe (6'1''-PG-89,...   [read more]

Bradley Beal (6'5''-SG-93, college: Florida) and John Wall (6'4''-PG-90, college: Kentucky) scored 28 points apiece and the Washington Wizards beat Toronto 122-103 on Saturday, cutting the Raptors' lead in their opening round playoff series to 2-1. DeMar DeRozan (6'7''-F/G-89, college: USC) scored 23 points to lead the Raptors on a chippy night, while Kyle Lowry (6'0''-PG-86, college: Villanova) had 19. Jonas Valanciunas (7'0''-C-92) finished with 14 and OG Anunoby had 12. Game 4 is on Su...   [read more]

Second-half surge lifts Pacers to 92-90 win over Cavaliers in Game 3 - 20 hours ago
The Indiana Pacers kept insisting this team was different. Anyone who doubted them coming into the playoffs understands now. On Friday, the one-year anniversary of a historic playoff collapse against Cleveland, Indiana flipped the script by rallying from a 17-point halftime deficit and held on for a 92-90 victory over the Cavaliers to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. They can take command of the series by winning Sunday on their home court. 'Last year's team, I don't know if w...   [read more]
