Jusuf Nurkic is blossoming in Portland!

Jusuf Nurkic (7'0''-C-94)is blossoming in Portland!

Jusuf Nurkic has taken to his new surroundings in Portland quite well. When travelling with the Nuggets he visited the local Bosnian community while in Portland and found friends amongst the ex-pat community. Having some familiarity and knowledge helped ease his transition in his first trade in the NBA. Nurkic wasn't unfamiliar with moving around, coming from Bosnia as a youth, going first to Slovenia and then Croatia all as a young man.

Nurkic was embraced in Denver but the circumstances changed during his time with the Nuggets and the development of the triple double machine Nikola Jokic in the post made Nurkic's future with the franchise untenable. This trade looks like a steal for Portland as they got the young talented Bosnian center in the trade and a first round pick. No one doubted his talent, it just wasn't possible to play the two players together and the emotional Nurkic wasn't happy coming off the bench for a few minutes a night at this point in his career.

Given the opportunity to play big minutes with Portland he has made the most of it in his first five games. For the first time in his career he is getting consistent minutes, not looking over his shoulder if he was getting pulled and playing through rough moments you would expect from a 22 year old center that only started playing basketball at the age of 14.He is averaging 30mpg 14ppg 8.6rbpg 3.8aspg 1.8stls and 1.8blks while shooting 58.3% from two and 73.7% from the FT line for his new team.. In his last game against the Thunder Nurkic played a major role in the 114-109 win for the Trailblazers. Nurkic played 38min with 18pts 12rbs 6ass 2stls 5blks while shooting 7-10 from the field and 4-5 from the FT line.

Nurkic showed his class on his way out of town for Denver when Nurkic posted on his Instagram and Twitter accounts: "Thanks to the opportunities you have given me in the Denver Nuggets. Former teammates, fans and the club I wish all the best. Now it's time for new challenges!"

Given the opportunity to play and health he is likely to give Portland more of these exciting moments. No doubt great things will continue for this young Bosnian big man and all of his fans for them, this is just the beginning of something special.

Russell Westbrook buzzer-beater lifts Thunder over Kings - 17 hours ago
Russell Westbrook (6'3''-PG-88, college: UCLA) had a harder time trying to figure out the official score sheet than getting free for a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Westbrook made a 3-pointer off an inbounds pass as time expired, lifting the Thunder to a 110-107 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night. "Got to find a way to get space with one second left," Westbrook said. "They thought I was going for a lob. I just read the defender and tried to pop back and get some space." The Th...   [read more]

Cavaliers Lose 110-103 to Wizards Despite LeBron James' 32 Points - 17 hours ago
The Washington Wizards earned a 110-103 road win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena. LeBron James (6'8''-SF-84) finished with 32 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in a losing effort, and this is the Cavs' first defeat since the quartet of Jordan Clarkson, George Hill (6'3''-PG-86, college: IUPUI), Larry Nance Jr. and Rodney Hood debuted after landing in Cleveland ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Bradley Beal (6'5''-SG-93, college: Florida) finished...   [read more]
