Spurs assign Baynes to Toros - Feb 1, 2013

Aron Baynes
The San Antonio Spurs have assigned center Aron Baynes (6'10''-C-86, college: Washington St.) to their D-League affiliate Austin Toros. Baynes played significant minutes in the Spurs' recent win over the Bobcats finishing with 7 points, 1 block and 9 rebounds in 17 minutes of action. However, seeing how he was added to the team mid-way through the season, without the benefit of a full training camp and preseason, any amount of time learning the Spurs' system is beneficial to his development. Similar to how the Spurs have been sending Nando De Colo back-and-forth to Austin in order to get time on the court and immerse himself in the Spurs' system. Moreover, after the Spurs' win over Charlotte, coach Gregg Popovich commented Baynes was winded and playing with the Toros tonight will help with his conditioning. Also, with Tim Duncan set to make his return to the court tomorrow versus Washington, it could be just a way to make roster space as well.

Wade Scores 22 in Chicago Debut, Bulls Beat Celtics 105-99 - 5 hours ago

Dwyane Wade (6'4''-G-82, college: Marquette) got the ball in the corner, took a dribble to his left and stepped back for the dagger 3-pointer. He made a throat slashing gesture with his right hand after the ball swished through the net and started jumping around as the crowd roared. Wade scored 22 points in a triumphant Chicago debut, Jimmy Butler (6'7''-G/F-89, college: Marquette) had 24 and the Bulls won their season opener, beating the Boston Celtics 105-99 on Thursday night. Wade hit...   [read more]

Leonard, Spurs spoil Kings arena opening with 102-94 win - 5 hours ago

Kawhi Leonard (6'7''-F-91, college: San Diego St.) ripped the ball away from Ben McLemore (6'5''-G-93, college: Kansas) and drove the other way for a three-point play. Then the next time down the court, Leonard grabbed it away from McLemore and scored on the other end. Those two plays turned the momentum San Antonio's way and sent the Spurs home with a very successful season-opening trip following a 102-94 victory over the Kings on Thursday night that spoiled the regular season opener at...   [read more]
