The St. Louis Hawks led for almost the entire game Saturday to defeat the Bowling Green Hornets, 107-96, to win the Central Basketball League championship at the Wohl Center. Corey Hill (6'4''-G/F) led the Hawks (6-2) with 23 points and nine rebounds, while Lonnell Johnson scored 21 points along with five steals and Dwayne Polk (5'9''-PG-85, college: St.Louis) also netted 21 points (16 in the fourth quarter) to go with 10 assists. The Hornets' (4-4) Boris Siakam (6'7''-F-85, college: W.Kentucky) led all scorers with 28 points. The Hornets lone lead came in the opening quarter when they took a 9-8 advantage. From there on in, however, the Hawks took control of the game and never relinquished. Things got worse for Bowling Green in the second half as first-team CBL guard Justin Taylor, who had 14 points in the first half, suffered a dislocated kneecap. Another first-teamer, center Tony Key (6'10''-C-82, college: Los Angeles CC), was ejected from the game in the third quarter. The Hornets were also without head coach Otis Key, who had to miss the game for personal reasons. Assistant Coach Nathan Thompson took over the reigns of the team for the title game.
