History was made on Saturday as the Midwest Basketball League made its on-court debut in Hamilton, Ohio. The host team Hamilton Heroes walked away as the winner defeating Indiana Dream 128-112.

Opening day for the Dayton Air Strikers and Indiana Fury proved to be a big event at Vandalia Recreation Center. Both teams put on a great display for their first game of the MBL season with Dayton coming away with the comeback victory 124-112.

A close game throughout, Dayton lead early only to see the Fury battle in the second quarter to take a 62-55 advantage into the halftime break. Indiana were led by guard Zach Payton (6'5''-G, college: Redlands CC), who poured in a game-high 44 points while adding 13 rebounds.

By midway into the third quarter the AirStrikers pounded away at the lead eventually retaking the lead 83-82. By the end of the quarter the game still was up for grabs with Dayton leading 90-88. A strong final quarter propelled the home team to a victory, their first since 2013 when the team went on hiatus after a brief run in the CBL.

27-year old Payton led all scorers with 44 points. His backcourt partner Moses Sullivan (6'1''-G, college: Franciscan) chipped in 27 points while Jaemile Barnes (6'4''-F) scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Xavier Nieves (6'3''-G/F) (11 points) and Brandon Mosley (10 points) also scored in double-figures for the Fury.

Stats for the Dayton Air Strikers were unavailable at press time.

Next weekend will see Dayton (1-0) welcome the Northern Indiana Monarchs for a Saturday night matchup. The Fury (0-1) will stay on the road to take on their in-state opponent Indiana Dream (0-1) on Sunday.

COURTKINGS TAKE DOWN VISION TO CLAIM BACK TO BACK CHAMPIONSHIPS - 1 month ago
Huntsville,Tx-------- The Midwest Basketball League had its 2017 Championship game this past weekend on the campus of Sam Houston State University. Both teams arrived to the arena with a police escort and as they went through pregame interviews you could see the excitement on their faces on how the day started off. Once the ball was in the air it was indeed a dog fight as the Vision and the CourtKings would exchange spurts in the game going on runs of their own. Toward the end it was all...   [read more]

CourtKings run the table, capture second straight MBL title - 1 month ago
Throughout the season, coaches and players of the Cedar Valley CourtKings have said winning another Midwest Basketball League title was far more important than finishing the year undefeated. But on Saturday night, they managed to accomplish both goals. Raijon Kelly (6'4''-G-93, college: Angelo St.) scored 34 points and Cedar Valley capped a 19-0 season with a 121-106 win over the Ft. Wayne Vision in the MBL championship game on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Tex...   [read more]

CourtKings capture West, look for championship repeat - 1 month ago
Facing arguably their stiffest challenge of the season, the Cedar Valley CourtKings survived and are now one win away from securing a Midwest Basketball League repeat. Anthony James(6'0''-PG-89, college: N.Iowa) converted a three-point play to kick-start a critical 8-0 run, and the CourtKings kept their perfect season alive with a 107-98 win over the Minnesota Rangers in the West Division finals Sunday at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. After the two teams traded the lead three times early i...   [read more]
