Sophmore forward Richard Smith (6'7''-F) recorded a triple-double and helped the nationally-ranked Lakeland mens basketball team defeat host St. Clair County 89-82 on Friday night. Smith finished with ten points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks on the day, tying Steve Haneks school record for blocks in the process.

Sophomore guards Daishon Robinson and Martell Medley (6'1''-G) led the way offensively with 19 and 17 points, respectively, while classmates Charles Oliver and Chaz Rollins added 14 apiece. Lakeland (6-3) shot 58% from the floor and was six of ten from beyond the arc.

Freshman guard Marcus Fleming chipped in three steals and three assists in the victory.

Medley, Smith, Rollins, Robinson will be critical in Lakeland potential return to the NJCAA national tournament, where they finished 4th last season.

Bernard Hopkins tabbed as New Hagerstown CC head coach - 16 days ago

Bernard Hopkinshas been tabbed as the new head coach at Hagerstown Community College (MD). Hopkins began his college playing career at Hagerstown ahead of a standout career at Virginia Commonwealth University where he was the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year in 1997. Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa standout Reggie Scurry(6'7''-PF) has committed to play his college basketball in the Missouri Valley Conference for Missouri State University. Scurry, a 6'7 post, averaged 8.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest for Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa in 2015-16 as a freshman. Scurry was a standout at North Clayton High School (GA) as a prep. The Sporting News has released its preseason junior college basketball rankings and Connors State College under head coach Bill Muse is ranked No. 9 in the nation entering the 2016-17 season.
