The Bellingham Slam received 30 points from guard Jacob Stevenson (6'4''-G-81, college: W.Washington) as they defeated the Vancouver Volcanoes, 134-122 in an International Basketball League contest at the O'Connell Sports Complex on Saturday.

Paired with their win over Portland on Friday, the victory gave the Slam their first sweep of a Volcanoes/Chinooks road trip in team history.

The cards were stacked against the Volcanoes from the get-go, as they suited just nine players for the game and Bellingham was riding high following a gritty win over the Chinooks the previous night.

Both the offense and defense were clicking early for Bellingham, as they limited Vancouver to 17 first quarter points and by the end of the first have were shooting 9-for-18 from three-point range. The Slam led 66-49 at halftime.

The Volcanoes improved on offense considerably in the second half, but were never able to make a sustained run as the Slam were able to respond consistently at the other end. Vancouver trimmed the margin to 10 just once, at 85-75 with five minutes left in the third quarter, before Bellingham closed the period with a 24-7 run to lead 106-82.

In the fourth quarter, Bellingham was outscored 40-28 but by then it was too late to affect the result.

Stevenson's 30 points came by way of 9-of-17 shooting from the floor and a near-perfect 12-of-13 mark from the free throw line. Center Blake Poole (6'5''-C-88, college: St.Martin's) and guard Morris Anderson (6'3''-G-87, college: W.Washington) put up 18 points for Bellingham, which improved to 6-2 with their fourth straight win.

Guard Andre Murray (6'2''-G-87, college: Portland St.) kept up his league-leading scoring numbers for Vancouver with 34 points on the night.

The Slam new return home for their annual Memorial Day game versus the same Volcanoes squad on May 26. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
