Richardson takes his talents to Washington Generals - Feb 22, 2012

Olympia Reign forward Bill Richardson (6'8''-F, college: St.Martin's) has been seeing a lot of the Harlem Globetrotters lately, from 'Big Easy' Lofton to 'Tiny' Sturgess, the tallest Globetrotter ever, as he is currently a member of the Washington Generals exhibition team.

The former Saint Martin's University standout has traded the competition of the International Basketball League in the off season to suit up as a member of the Generals and tour as the perennial opponent of the Harlem Globetrotters as part of their famous and wildly popular barnstorming act.

Richardson has been touring with the Generals since last fall and has yet to see his team earn a win against the Globetrotters. In fact, try as they might, the Generals have not posted a victory since 1971.

After graduating from Saint Martin's in 2009 where he was named second team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference as a senior after posting season averages of 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds, Richardson moved on to the Reign, where his workman-like attitude drew praises. In 2011, he averaged 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for Olympia. He also earned a tryout with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League, impressing the coaching staff as he has with his home team, the Reign.

''Bill is very much a team player and never has ever been frustrated about not getting his touches and on our team he definitely should have gotten more touches,'' commented Reign owner Mark Felton when asked about Richardsons qualities. ''His attitude, work ethic and coachability are outstanding.''

Richardson will be in uniform for the Generals playing against the Globetrotters as their tour makes its way through Western Washington this week, with exhibitions at the ShoWare Center in Kent on February 23, Comcast Arena in Everett on February 25, and Key Arena in Seattle on February 26.
