Brewster Academy became the 2017 National Prep Champions tonight ending an impressive, undefeated season with a 33-0 record. The Bobcats prevailed 72-71 over Northfield Mount Hermon, the same team the Bobcats defeated to capture the NEPSAC Class AAA championship just five days ago.
It's the fifth time in eight years the Bobcats have earned the national title (2010, 2012, 2014, 2015). On Sunday, the Bobcats won the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council Class AAA championships.
Aaron Wheeler (6'8''-SF) was named tournament MVP. Aaron scored 22 points (5 for 5 in 3-point shots) and grabbed 3 rebounds.
Hours before the final game, the Bobcats earned their spot in the championship after beating Putnam Science Academy 76-73 in the semifinals. The day prior, Brewster defeated Notre Dame Prep convincingly 93-70 in the quarterfinals.
Of the eight seniors or postgraduates on the team, seven have made commitments to play at the following universities next season: Brandeis (Semih Say (6'4''-G)), Purdue (Aaron Wheeler), Florida (Michael Okauru (6'4''-PG)), UConn (Makai Ashton-Langford (6'2''-PG-98)), North Carolina State (Thomas Allen (6'2''-G)), and Georgia Tech (Curtis Haywood II (6'6''-SG) and Avi Schafer (6'10''-C-98)).
