The Heartland PROWL start their season off perfect with a big win over the Rebels of Tampa Bay. The game was a positive sign for the PROWL as they start the season short handed after key injuries and needed roster changes.

The game was an even match during the first half with each team exchanging baskets for much of the first half. The PROWL eased out to a comfortable seven point lead by the half with a score 51-44. The PROWL were paced in the first half by a great team effort from their bench. The Rebels dominated the paint and the boards as they used their size to take a commanding lead during the first quarter, going up by as many 11 points in the quarter. The PROWL chipped away at the lead with long range shooting from reserves Theo Jones (6'3''-G-82, college: Central Mo.) and Brandon Ascani-Diaz. The second quarter saw the PROWL make a run of their own to tie the game and eventually ease into a comfortable 7 point lead by the half.

The third quarter did not fair so well for the PROWL as dominate inside play and offensive rebounding helped the Rebels reclaim the lead going into the fourth quarter. During the fourth quarter Prowl guards Mike Floyd and Theo Jones pushed the PROWL ahead with precise outside shooting, while forward Derell Henderson connected on key baskets in the paint including the go ahead layup with 10 seconds remaining to seal the win for the PROWL. PROWL forward Justin Grogen also hit two big three point shots under the three minute mark that gave the PROWL life as they closed in on the lead. The PROWL were led by Theo Jones (28), Mike Floyd (19), and Derell Henderson who added 16. Forward Mirnes Islamovic contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds on the night. The Rebels were led by Watson and Kendrick who both poured in double-doubles. Watson posted 20 points and 11 rebounds while Kendrick had 19 points and 12 rebounds including 8 offensive rebounds. The win improves the PROWL to 1-0 while the Rebels fall to 1-1 on the young season. The teams will be back in action this weekend as they head to Tampa for round two.

"I am pleased with our play tonight", stated PROWL Head Coach Cornell Young. "We still need to get better at keeping our defensive intensity level high and rebounding the ball as a team on the defensive end especially. We will focus on continuing to get back and healthy as we have a couple players out hurt.
