On March 5 the Winston-Salem Certified season began against fellow ECBL newcomer Carolina MPact. With all the hype and build up to this game Certified held up its end of the deal. Many were in attendance including the Carver High School band, who had the building jumping from wall to wall with non-stop entertainment.

Winston-Salem came ready to play - after Mpact's Jamoszio Burch opened scoring hitting the first three of the game, Justin Parham (5'11''-PG, college: Caldwell CC) of Certified answered right back with two three's of his own to get things rolling. After the first few possessions Winston-Salem never looked back, pushing the tempo the entire game. Final score had Certified on top 113-69.

Certified were led by Zalinor Banks (6'5''-G, college: Fayetteville St.) 33 points and Marcus Brown (5'10''-PG) 28 points. Banks is coming off of a season where he was a league scoring champion while Brown might be one of the most underrated guards this year in the ECBL.

Carolina MPact showed signs of promise with veteran Tyrell Horton (6'4''-F/G) leading this group into their first season in the ECBL.

Next up for Winston-Salem Certified: Saturday the team will travel down to Greenville to take on the SC Upstate Redhawks. Game time is scheduled for 5 PM.

There were 11 names listed on the Petersburg Cavaliers' roster. When the final buzzer sounded, all 11 names had points next to them. Six had double-digits. 'That's what's supposed to happen,' Cavaliers head coach Kyle Dixon said after the game. 'We're not a team of just one player. We're a team, so any given time, anybody can get out there and do something crazy.' That total team effort, highlighted by a clutch performance late in the fourth quarter from six-foot-eight TJ T.J. Granger (6'...   [read more]
