The Eastern Basketball Alliance Prepares for the 2011-2012 Season - Nov 8, 2011

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

As the E.B.A., Eastern Basketball Alliance, prepares for the 2011-2012 season, several teams have key players currently playing elsewhere.

The Harrisburg Horizons Charles Parker (6'4''-G-85, college: Millersville), a 6'4 shooting guard is playing in Keflavik, Iceland for the Iceland Express team. Parker was named player of the week for October 30th. Parker was a key player the Horizon this past season as they made a playoff run.

The New York Wizards Darren Townes: Averaged 17 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 4.2 APG for the Wizards in 2010/2011. One of the major reasons the Wizards were able to make a Final Four run in 2011. Extremely high percentage shooter with an excellent mid-range shot and knock down shooter at the free throw line. Established Wizards record by shooting 63% from the filed for 2010/2011. Opposing players just cannot stop this players post up game! Capable of playing any position on the floor from 2-5! Athletic and strong and a team first player!

Darren has signed with the Finnish Professional Basketball League and will play for BC Nokia in Finlands 1st Division.

Darrell Wonge: Averaged 20.1 PPG 3.9 RPG, and 1.8 APG for the Northern Division Champion New York Wizards in 2010/2011. Considered one of the best shooters, in the EBA last season, according to his coach Greg Cerillo, Sr.. Established a Wizard record for 3-pt shots hit in a game last season with 7 at Hudson Valley eclipsing the previous record of 5 held by Greg Cerillo Jr. against the Nova Hawks in 2009. A natural 2-guard Darrell is long enough and strong enough to match up against larger players if needed. At 67 with a high release point on his jump shot Darrells outside shot is almost impossible to block or change! His length might be his biggest advantage for the position he plays!

Darrell has signed to play professionally in Canada. In the National Basketball League of Canadas inaugural Draft on August 22nd 2011 Darrell was the 4th overall pick in the 1st round going to Moncton.

Wizards Power Forward Nigel Byam signed a contract to play overseas in Bahrain for the Bahrain Premier Basketball League and a team called Issa Town!
The defending 2011 E.B.A. Champions, the Metropolitan All-Stars, have several players currently playing or soon to be playing in Mexico and Peru. We are very proud of our guys having put themselves in a position to play professionally, says owner and 2011 E.B.A co-MVP, Calvin Brown, Jr., our goals are to win Championships and to give our guys positive exposure. This past season we accomplished both. Darnell Evans, aka Tex, will be joining Calvin in Peru on November 6, 2011 to play in the national tournaments there that runs from mid November through mid December. Antwone Hawkins, Elyon Bush and Curtis Crews will be heading to Mexico City, Mexico to play for the Durazneros Decasas Grandes team there in December. They will be playing in the Pinotepa Nacional Oaxaca tournament. This makes the upcoming season more difficult if some or all of guys sign contracts for the upcoming season, says E.B.A. Coach of the Year, and Metropolitan All-Stars Head Coach, Al Brown, but this is what it is all about. Our goal is still the same, to win the Championship. This gives some of our other players the opportunity to step up and be recognized. We will be having try-outs to fill some of the gaps. Having posted a 17 1 record last season we know that every team will give us their best shot every game and we will be prepared.
The Metropolitan All-Stars will be holding try-outs every Thursday at 9:00pm at the Washington Sports Center (WSC) 3100 14th Street, N.W. Washington DC 3rd floor.
The E.B.A will be holding its annual owners meeting this weekend and should have a schedule in place shortly after that
