The Eastern Basketball Alliance has announced today that New York Wizards Head Basketball Coach Greg Cerillo Sr. has been named 2013 Coach of the Year!
Fans and opponents have seen for years the quality of play from both Coach Cerillos Teams and players, with countless former Wizards players signing both domestic and overseas contracts during his Coaching tenure.
For the 2013 campaign Coach Cerillos Team finished a perfect 4-0 in EBA play and 6-1 overall. As remarkable as the winning percentage is, is perhaps Coach Cerillos ability to get his teams to play team ball in an arena where individual stats are perceived as the toll to get players recruited for higher paid contracts. Coach Cerillos Team gave up an average of 94 PPG this season to teams which normally average in the 120 PPG range.
This season brings Coach Cerillos overall professional coaching record to 41-15, a remarkable .732 winning percentage.
Coach Cerillos philosophy of holding regular team practices at quality facilities, not bringing in all star players for single games which upsets team chemistry, and having all players play both ends of the floor has created a winning tradition for the NY Wizards which is hard to match.
In 5-years of pro play Coach Cerillos Teams have qualified for the playoffs each year, won 3-division titles, qualified for 2-Final Fours, and one won overall EBA Title.
From Coach Cerillo: Any success I have is directly attributed to my players, my Assistant Coach Greg Barry, my sponsors like Robert Draper and Fundamental Sports Training in Westury. Their support and effort means success for everyone involved. I feel very fortunate with all the quality clubs and coaches in our league to be considered for such an honor.
