D-League round 30 best performance: Demetris Nichols - Jan 22, 2013

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Forward Demetris Nichols (205-F-84) had a very impressive game in the last round for Sioux Falls S., receiving a Player of the Week award for round 30.
The 28-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, six rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Texas L. (#4, 11-10) 102-93. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Sioux Falls S. maintains the 4th position in D-League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Sioux Falls S. will need more victories to improve their 13-10 record. In the team's last game Nichols had a remarkable 70.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Sioux Falls S.'s top player in his first season with the team. Demetris Nichols averages this season 17.6ppg and 5.3rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was 30-year old Darius Rice (208-F-82) of Texas L.. Rice had a very good evening with a double-double of 39 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Texas L. lost that game 93-102 to slightly higher-ranked Sioux Falls S. (#4, 13-10). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Texas L. still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 11-10 record is not bad at all. Rice is a newcomer at Texas L., but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was center Henry Sims (208-C-90) of Erie Bay H. (#5). Sims showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, twelve rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. Despite Sims' great performance Erie Bay H. lost 95-96 to the higher-ranked Santa Cruz W. (#2, 14-7). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Erie Bay H. needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 11 victories and 9 lost games. Sims has a very solid season. In 20 games in D-L he scored 15.2ppg. He also has 8.3rpg and 1.5bpg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Luke Harangody (201-F-88) of Ft.Wayne MA - 31 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Micah Downs (203-G/F-86) of Maine RC - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Willie Reed (206-F-90) of Springfield A. - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Elijah Millsap (198-G-87) of Los Angeles D. - 32 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. D.J. Kennedy (198-G/F-89) of Erie Bay H. - 15 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Gary Flowers (203-F-86) of Los Angeles D. - 30 points and 6 rebounds
10. Ryan Rossiter (204-F/C-89) of Canton C. - 19 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
