Jimmy Dorsey claims Canadian CIS weekly honour - Nov 12, 2012

Jimmy Dorsey
American Jimmy Dorsey (188-G) had a very impressive game in the last round for league's second-best Cape Breton and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5.
The -year old guard had the game-high 26 points adding four rebounds and four assists for Cape Breton in his team's victory, helping them to outclass, the league's bottom-ranked team Memorial (#8, 0-4) with 46-point margin 107-61. Cape Breton is placed at 2nd position in Canadian CIS. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Cape Breton won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Dorsey had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He has many years of experience at Cape Breton, through which he has constantly improved. Jimmy Dorsey averages just after two games 24.0ppg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was -year old Kevon Parchment of UFV. Parchment impressed basketball fans with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Bad luck as UFV lost that game 72-78 to league's leader Victoria (#2, 4-0). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. UFV still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 2-2 record is not bad at all. Parchment is a newcomer at UFV and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Stephan Walton (178-G-87) of Manitoba (#6). Walton showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, six rebounds and seven assists in the last round. He was a key player of Manitoba, leading his team to a 81-63 easy win against slightly lower-ranked Brandon (#7, 1-3). Manitoba needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 2 lost games. Walton has a great season in Canada. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 22.5ppg (4th best) and assists with 6.0apg (3rd best). Walton attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Johnny Higgins (187-G) of St.Mary's - 20 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists
5. Vincent Dufort (195-F) of McGill - 16 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Terry Thomas (193-G) of St.Francis X. - 28 points and 9 rebounds
7. Jordon Gauthier (191-G) of Ryerson - 19 points and 13 rebounds
8. Geoff Doane (196-F) of UPEI - 26 points and 7 rebounds
9. Arild Geugjes (203-F) of Cape Breton - 17 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Chris McLaughlin (208-C) of Victoria - 22 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
