Malik Thomas
This Scarborough team is full of surprises as they continue to dig themselves out of holes, figuring out ways to win. They defeated the Wellington Basketball Club Saturday evening with a final score of 93-86. Malik Thomas (6'7''-G/F-92, college: Norfolk St.) and Eric Jean-Guilluame led the way for the Scarborough squad, each netting 24 points. Wellington's Devon Scott (6'9''-F-94, college: Philander Smith) made his presence felt, tallying 25 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. Scarborough only trailed by six at the half but slowly saw that gap increase as Wellington pushed it up to as high as 20 with the fourth quarter underway. Scarborough whittled the lead down utilizing the press on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and converting in transition. "We played some full-court press. We have some long athletes in Anthony Winbush (6'7''-F/G-90, college: Loyola, MD) and Malik Thomas," Said Garrett Kelly, Scarborough's head coach on how his team was able to claw back into the game. "The team played really hard in the second half, creating some steals and turnovers and changing the momentum of the game." Kelly's Scarborough club is starting to get the reputation of a squad that will not stop coming at you until the buzzer sounds and it's making some exciting brand of basketball.
