The Yakima Sun Kings have the #1 spot in the Western Conference, just beat the 2004-05 Championship

Team 122 - 108 and are playing great basketball.  I had the chance to sit down with Coach

Paul Woolpert to discuss the teams success, challenges and the upcoming All Star Game.

Q:  Coach of the Month in December, #1 in your Conference and winning the first quarter

point on Sunday against Rockford you are now the All Star Coach, what is the secret to your

success so far this season?

A:  We are playing like we should, unselfishly.  Our guys are giving up good shots to get

better shots, and with a lot of special talent in our line up like Rosell Ellis (6'7''-F-75, agency: SportsTalent, college: Mc Neese St.), Anthony

Goldwire and Ronny Turiaf (6'10''-C/F-83, college: Gonzaga) we are playing outstanding basketball.

Q:  How about the run for the CBA Championship this year and beating out Sioux Falls to get

A:  THere are some tough teams out there on any given night.  Coach Joerger and I are good

friends, but we are both very competitive.  We will continue to play as we have in the past

few games and utilize our deep roster with lots of talent.  Also when you have players like

Mark Strickland (6'10''-F/C-70, agency: Octagon, college: Temple) who used to play on another team, in this case Rockford, they play that much

harder and deliver a winning performance.

Q:  Will you be making any changes to your roster?

A:  I do not forsee any changes at this time, other than the players we have and will loose

to NBA call ups.  But those are good for the players, reflects the development of our

organization and the CBA.  It is always tough to loose good players during the season, but I

knew it was going to happen.

Q:  Are you ready for the All Star Game?

A:  I am very happy for the opportunity to be the Coach for the Western Conference All Stars

and to take my Assistant Coaches, Tony Fritz and Don Sellers with me.  The break always

hurts momentum and it can be difficult to get back into regular play.  But I believe we can

get through it, work hard and keep up our success.

Q:  You have worked with NBA teams and had success in the CBA, what is next for you as a

A:  I am a CBA guy.  I enjoy Yakima, our community supports us and our fans are great!  I do

not see myself going anywhere anytime soon.  Any next step would be to the NBA as per our

relationship between the two leagues.  I am working on another CBA Championship right now.

titlFORT WAYNE 95, INDIANAPOLIS 92: (Danville, Ill.) - In a battle between the two top teams in the league, featuring the top-seeded Indianapolis Blaze and the second-seed and defending league champions, Fort Wayne Flite, it was fitting that the contest literally went down to the final minute.
