SPRINGFIELD 95, PEORIA 91: (Springfield, Ill.) - When these two teams squared off last week in Peoria, the thrilling contest needed an extra period to decide a winner. It appeared the same fate was on tap tonight, with numerous lead changes and ties. With four minutes remaining in the game, and Peoria up by six points, Springfield made their final offensive push, as they outscored the visitors, 18-8, to end the game, and prevail 95-91 in their home opener. Springfield, unofficially, had six players scoring in double-digits, led by Terrence Davis with 16 points and Levi Smith with 15 points. Peoria was once again led by Marvin Jordan (5'11''-PG), for a second consecutive week, as he scored 34 points, with Bobby Anderson scoring 24 points. With the victory, Springfield (2-0) eclipses their win total from last season, while Peoria (0-2) remains winless in their organization history on the road (0-15).
COLUMBUS 99, INDIANAPOLIS 80: (Indianapolis, Ind.) - With the home team playing their first game in the CBA tonight, they could not envision a better start to the contest, leading Columbus by as many as nine points in the first half. But the visitors, and their veteran experience, handcuffed Indianapolis defensively in the second half, outscoring the hosts by 26 points en route to a comfortable 99-80 victory. Unofficially, Columbus (2-0) was led by Tihon Johnson (6'4''-G-82, college: Mountain St.) with 26 points and Brett McKnight (6'6''-F, college: Akron) with 22 points. Anthony White led Indianapolis (0-1) with 27 points, with former Butler University-product, Chrishawn Hopkins, chipping in with 15 points. Columbus travels to Fort Wayne tomorrow afternoon to complete the second leg of their back-to-back games this weekend, while Indianapolis travels to Fort Wayne next Saturday night for their first league road game.
MIDDLE TENNESSEE 99, MISSISSIPPI 89: (Memphis, Tenn.) - The 2014 CBA Champions, Middle Tennessee Storm, literally stormed their way out the gate tonight on the road, outscoring Mississippi 52-22 in the first half. Although Mississippi ultimately cut the deficit to as low as 10 points late in the fourth quarter, this game had been decided via the early onslaught by the visitors. Since they joined the league at its inception in 2013, Middle Tennessee is now 4-0 all-time in season opening games. Middle Tennessee (1-0) was led unofficially by Joshua Sain with 27 points and Torye Pelham (6'6''-F-87, college: S.Mississippi) with 20 points, while Mississippi (0-1) was led by Anthony Jones and Gary Love with 20 points each. Both these teams are in action next Saturday night, as Middle Tennessee hosts Memphis, and Mississippi travels to Bowling Green.
