Remaining perfect in the 2008-09 season, the East Kentucky Miners defeated the Georgia Gwizzlies 140-95 on sunday night. East Kentucky was dominant, blanking Georgia 7-0 in the quarter points category on its way to improving to 8-0. The Miners carried a 63-47 lead into halftime after leading Georgia 35-24 at the conclusion of the opening period. Seven different home players reached the double figures scoring plateau. Former CBA Player of the Year Galen Young (6'7''-F/G-75, college: Charlotte) turned in a triple-double performance of 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for the Miners. Mike Dean (6'2''-G-82, agency: Strategic Sports, college: Middle Tenn.St.) was the leading scorer, finishing with a game-high 37 points and Jermaine Blackburn (6'7''-G/F-83, college: Boise St.) contributed 27 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Joe Manuel (6'5''-F) led Georgia with 25 points. Moses Edun (6'6''-G/F-84, agency: Tank Sports, college: Alabama St.) followed with 20 points for the Gwizzlies, and five different Georgia players scored 11 or more points in the Interleague Challenge matchup. The ABA Los Vegas Aces played a hard-fought, high-scoring game against the CBA Minot Skyrockets before going down, 142-127. The Aces were led by Carlton Christian (6'4''-G/F-85) who had 37 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds and 3 steals while the Skyrockets were led by game MVP Ronnie Fields (6'4''-G-77, agency: Edge Sports) with 29 points, and Brandon Smith (6'6''-G/F-86, college: Minnesota) added 25. The Jersey Express dropped their third straight game this season to the Albany Patroons blowing an 18-point lead Sunday at Drew University's Baldwin Gym. The ABA team was beaten 88-81 by their rivals from the CBA. Patroons forward Gabriel Freeman (6'6''-F-85, college: Costa Mesa JC) was the game top performer, ending with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Newcomer Alexus Foyle (6'6''-F-78, college: BYU-Hawaii) led the Express with 14 points and eight rebounds in his debut.
