The American Basketball Association (ABA) announced that CJ Henderson as been appointed CEO of ABA Australia, the second initiative in the league's international expansion. "The ABA brand is recognized worldwide," stated ABA co-founder Joe Newman. "Each year, we send over 250 players to play internationally and have established some remarkable relationships. Many countries have expressed interest in the exciting ABA rules and in our fan-friendly affordable approach to professional basketball. We are very happy to have CJ leading the effort in Australia.
Though born in Oklahoma into a sports family with one member playing for the Harlem Globetrotters and the other being NFL legend Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson, CJ has been involved with basketball all his life and played internationally for two seasons. He is a US Navy veteran aboard the famous USS Missouri and has lived in Sydney Australia for 28 years including coaching two local teams to championships.
He currently runs a sports marketing business in Sydney and is partnered with a global sporting app along with some of the biggest names in the NBA. "As a young man I grew up watching the original ABA evolve and I am really lookig forward to re-creating that magic for the young people of Australia," added Henderson. "My first goal is to recruit 4-8 teams owners to form teams, and like the ABA, we'll make it the easiest to own and operate of any professional sports league. We are excited and pleased with this opportunity."
