The American Basketball Association announced that the location for the 2010-2011 ABA All-Star Game has been awarded to Jacksonville, Florida. The game will be played on Saturday, February 26, 2011.
According to Joe Newman , ABA CEO, ' Jacksonville Giants owner Ron Sholes presented the ABA with a wonderful proposal for the event that showed Jacksonville, a former host of the NFL Super Bowl and recent host of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament, to be an extraordinary city to host a gale event like our All Star Game.'
As for the All Star weekend itself, the ABA All-Star Game and other activities will take place at the Veterans Memorial Arena which is located in the city's Sports Complex. There will also be a wide variety of entertainment taking place throughout the weekend in downtown Jackonville, so there will be plenty to do for everyone. Directly on the steps of the Veteran's Memorial Arena is the well-known and popular City Hall Pub, owned by Sholes, which will host several parties and game-associated events with live entertainment all weekend long as well.
'Our team and city is very proud to have been selected as the hosts for this year's All-Star Game,' stated Sholes. 'The league has grown dramatically and we have some really great players. I think the fans will be amazed at the high level of talent in the league and the excitement of the ABA game. We'll do everything we can as an organization and a city to justify the confidence placed in us by the ABA and we firmly believe that hosting this special event is just another piece of the Jacksonville basketball puzzle and a sign of greater things ahead.'
Additional details about the ABA All-Star Game will be posted on the team's website at www.jacksonvillegiants.com and on the league's website at www.abalive.com For more information, fans can also call 904 355 6531 or email events@abalallstargame.com
